Dear Friend,

More than at any other time in 50 plus years of ministry, I’m hearing the question “Why?” a lot lately. People want to understand what’s happening in Ukraine, in Israel, in Iran, in China, in Europe, and in America.

The war between Russia and Ukraine has now dragged on for six months…something almost no one thought possible at the beginning of the year. The centrifuges in Iran keep spinning, and one top Israeli military official told me recently they now have 95% of the highly enriched uranium they need for a nuclear weapon. Terrorist groups like Islamic Jihad, at Iran’s direction, have fired hundreds of rockets into Israel at innocent men, women, and children.

Why is all this happening? It’s all about spirit war.

In the book of Daniel chapter ten, we find the great prophet and man of faith praying and fasting and seeking answers from God about the visions he had been given regarding the future. After three weeks Daniel was visited by an angel who brought him the answer to his prayer. But the angel also revealed to Daniel a spiritual battle that had been taken place in the unseen realm.

The angel said that the answer had been sent immediately, but it had been delayed because a demonic power that he referred to as the “prince of Persia” had blocked it from being delivered. It was not until the archangel Michael, who is seen in Scripture as a great fighter for God’s people, arrived and helped win the battle that the angel with Daniel’s answer was able to come to the prophet and deliver it to him.

The Bible teaches that there are different levels of authority in the spirit realm. Paul wrote, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12).

Your Jerusalem Prayer Team command and control center is just 600 meters from the Temple Mount. Ours is the largest prayer movement in history waging spirit wars, and your Friends of Zion Center in Jerusalem is the brightest light of Christian love to the nation of Israel. The nation of Israel knows that when they are in need, you are there for them.

One of the most important truths I have ever learned is that no battle can be won in the physical realm unless it has first been fought and won in the spiritual realm. If Daniel had not been faithful to continue praying even though his answer was delayed, I do not believe that the spiritual battle would have been won. We are not observers in spiritual warfare…we are on the front lines of the battle. Our prayers matter a great deal, and they are powerful. The great hymn writer William Cowper said, “Satan trembles when he sees, the weakest saint upon his knees.”

We have a responsibility to be active participants in spiritual warfare. We must take this seriously, because these spiritual powers — both demonic and angelic — are actively at work in our world today. This is one of the vital lessons of this story from the book of Daniel. Each of us is facing battles against differing levels or layers of authority in the spiritual realm.

This is not just true on an individual basis; it is true on a national level as well. The demonic being referred to as “prince of Persia” had power and authority over one of the greatest empires of history. And this is not an isolated or special case. Other nations have demonic powers assigned to them. After talking with Daniel, the angel revealed that there was another evil spirit involved. Then he said, “Do you know why I have come to you? And now I must return to fight with the prince of Persia; and when I have gone forth, indeed the prince of Greece will come” (Daniel 10:20).

This tells us that just as Persia had a demonic power working in authority over its empire, there was a “prince of Greece” as well. And it was only after the demonic power behind the kingdom of Persia had been defeated by the archangel Michael that the Greeks, under Alexander the Great were able to defeat them on the field of battle. Previous to that time the Greeks and Persians had fought a series of battles, but there was no decisive victory until the demonic power dynamic was first changed.

The same is true right now. There are demonic powers behind the war in Ukraine, behind Iran’s nuclear program, behind the terrorist attacks, and those same demonic powers are working to weaken Israel and the nations that are friendly toward God’s Chosen People.

This isn’t new. It’s been going on for thousands of years. The good news is that this is a fight we can win, because the power of God is greater than the power of the Enemy!

Today God is calling you and me to build a firewall between light and darkness. We are battling against principalities and powers that are bent on the destruction of the Jewish state and the Jewish people. The desire of Satan since ancient times has been to control Jerusalem. He recognizes the significance of the Holy City to God’s future plans for our world.

Without a doubt, I am confident that God placed our Friends of Zion Center campus so close to the Temple Mount because it is ground zero for spirit war in our world. You and I are vital to the future survival of Israel because this spirit war can only be fought and won with spiritual weapons.

Together we are unleashing the power of God through prayer, and amazing things are happening!

But we can’t do what God has called us to do unless our friends and partners — people like you who believe in the promises of God and the power of prayer — provide the resources so we can keep fighting the spirit war and doing everything we are doing to respond to the needs of Jewish people in Israel, in Ukraine, and all around the world.

Please pray for my beloved son Michael. As I write this, he is in Ukraine. He will be going to Bucha, Irpen, Vorzel, Bobrynets, Mykolaiv (Nikolaev), and Odessa feeding and comforting Holocaust survivors and bringing food to forgotten churches filled with starving refugees. He is your ambassador to suffering souls. No other minister in America has been into so many bombed cities in Ukraine this year. On this trip, he will deliver two million pounds of food! Yes, that’s correct…two million pounds of food thanks to so many generous friends like you!

You have fed over two million Jewish and Christian refugees this year. To God be all the glory. I asked Michael, “Why are you making this trip?” He said, “Dad, I saw you all my life doing great things for God. It was always my dream to do great things for God, too. I realized I could die so I went to pray and God gave me this promise: “I will not die but live and declare the works of the Lord” (Psalm 118:17).

We cannot stop any of the work we are doing. It is all vitally important. Please rush your most generous gift today.
